Rebuilding one of Munich’s legendary cars – BMW M3

This 1987/88 BMW M3 was brought to us for a fabrication/mechanical repair and a repaint.

These cars are well known to be susceptible to rust and sadly, this car was no exception.

Our expert fabricators rebuilt the inner and outer rear wheel arches as there were no replacement panels available. There were many other areas of corrosion to fix and we quickly realised that the corrosion to the sun-roof aperture and sunroof cartridge was so bad that it would more economical to install a new roof section. We have built relationships with many specialist breakers and we were able to source an original period correct roof, this was installed and we repaired the sunroof panel to complete the metalwork restoration.

We repainted the car in the original Zermatt Silver and fitted the M3s engine which had been rebuilt by a specialist. We were tasked to build the car up to a rolling shell and finish the exterior rebuild.  We rebuilt the running gear with improved bushings and were able to source the unique M3 wheel hubs from the US.

The Result

This is a good example of how we are happy to work on a full or partial restoration. In this case the owner was keen to finish the interior rebuild himself but wanted us to complete everything else. We can’t wait to see this legendary coupe finished and on the road.
