Mercedes

Mercedes specialist

No other brand seems to attract so many dedicated fans across so many years of production. It’s for that reason that we work on all types of Mercedes, from 1950s Mercedes 190SL’s as well as 1990s 190E models and everything in between.

In 1953 it was the Mercedes 180 ‘Pontoon’ that began Mercedes reputation of long lasting, solidly made and good performing cars. By 1954 the 300SL Gullwing was launched, the first fuel injected production car in the world. The 190SL Roadster cemented Mercedes reputation as a maker of stylish sports cars which has continued to the present day. The Mercedes W120 and W180 was the start of an almost endless series of brilliant coupes that evolved through the W111, W108, W109, W114 Models until the end of the 1970s. The wonderful R107 class are what we see and work on most.

Mercedes legendary build quality has meant that you can find many examples of all models to restore today. The 1970s saloons offer low-cost entry to classic Mercedes ownership but rust can be extensive and therefore costly to repair. Mercedes like many manufacturers is actively investing in its classic panels and parts production and there is a good selection of newly made repair panels. Whilst there are fantastic reproductions of trim and chrome parts available, these are very expensive. Parts for 190 SL particularly so, we are always happy to inspect a potential car for a customer, it really is in the small details that where what looks to be a straightforward restoration can be revealed to be a very expensive one. As an example, the 190SL’s soft top and frame has a bewildering amount of small parts that are very costly to source and replace.
