Making a unique Stuttgart classic at home in 2021 – Porsche 911 964 Carrera 4 cabriolet

Our customer had owned this rather special 964 cabriolet for many years, its special order exterior yellow colour, bright red carpets and full leather trimming has been turning heads since it was used as a press car to launch the 964 Carrera 4 cabriolet body in the UK.

The owners had kept the car in excellent mechanical order, but the car had suffered a few knocks in its lifetime and the paint and interior was looking a little tired. They decided that this was a car that they could never foresee selling and wanted to refresh the vehicle whilst putting their own stamp on it.

A first choice was whether to paint the car in the original special-order factory yellow or change it. After much trial and error, a brighter yellow was chosen. The startling ‘Can Can’ red carpets and leather trimming scheme was to be retained but it had faded and it was refreshed by a new hand-made carpet set made by Southbound Trimmers and fitted by our trimmer. The seat bolsters had some wear and cracking to the leather and so new leather was let in and some re-plumping done to the foams prior to being connolised and repainted. All the interior leather elements were recoloured to bring the brightness back.  Time had not been kind to the rear bumper mounts which had all corroded into a solid lump that could not be removed and most of the rubber seals were replaced with new items.

Finally, the front and rear indicators received a smoked effect to sharpen the cars image and give it the slightest hint of an up to date ‘Restomod’ look.

The Result

This is not a car you won’t notice and is reminder of the bold designs and colour schemes of Porsche in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This Stuttgart beauty with its fantastic and confident colour combination is now in a fabulous condition and is back on the road, turning heads again – something its been doing for over 30 years.
